Occupational therapist
I am an Occupational therapist (OT) with 23 years of experience working for the NHS.I am fully registered with the Health and Care Professionals council (HCPC) and with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT)I have worked as a specialist OT in a wide range of Mental health, physical health and community based services.
I have provided Occupational therapy to adults in hospital and outpatient settings, intermediate care/rehab units, within their own homes, schools / colleges, residential / nursing homes, day centres, leisure centres and any places that the person would access in their community.
My aim is to help my service user to enjoy a meaningful life doing the things that are important to them despite having health conditions.
Whole-person approach, Educative, Rehabilitative, Adaptive, Biopsychosocial, Biomechanical, Graded exposure, Remediation, Compensation, Problem solving, Maintenance, Modification, Activation, Desensitisation, Lifestyle and wellbeing
I believe in treating the person as a whole by not just helping them to manage their physical, mental, emotional symptoms but also addressing their social, environmental any other barriers that may be hampering the individual’s ability to reach their maximum potential despite their condition.
I believe that the first step in therapy is to connect and form a therapeutic rapport with my client to form a greater understanding of their precipitating, perpetuating and predisposing factors. After which I can helping them to gain a better understanding and self-awareness of their condition. Provide individualised tailor made treatment plans using some of the above listed therapy approaches to help them through their recovery journey of acceptance, adapting, adjusting and accommodating.
I find great joy in helping my client feel empowered and enabled, so that they feel like they are able to confidently self-manage thereby feeling more in control of their condition and no longer symptom lead.
I use the person’s meaningful and purposeful occupations (not just work/study but also their valued activities) to motivate them to engage in therapy and then to rehabilitate them back into their desired occupations.
Spending quality time with my kids, walking and cycling in nature bring me the greatest joy. I enjoy cooking and baking for my friends and family.Yoga, meditation and deep breathing exercises revitalise and re-energise me.
My passion is dancing (any style) and this brings me immense joy, I’m a trained Indian classical Kathak dancer. I also love listening to music of most genres.
I love playing badminton, tennis, table tennis and watching most sports with my friends and family. I seem to find knitting, crocheting and art work most therapeutic even though my end products are not worth sharing!
