Dr Anne Jacobs

MSc DClinPsy

Clinical Psychologist

I’m a Clinical Psychologist with over 18 years of experience working in psychological services in the NHS. I care deeply about my work and have worked alongside hundreds of clients over the years. Clients know me as someone who is immediately approachable, a psychologist with warmth and compassion, who creates a sense of safety that lets people relax and feel understood.

I hold a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Masters in Developmental Psychopathology, and am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Alongside my Doctoral training in Clinical Psychology I also have completed additional training related to a number of evidence based therapeutic approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement De-sensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

Specialisms

I offer an individualised approach to psychological therapy drawing on a number of different therapeutic approaches depending on a person’s needs, and have experience working with clients of all ages.

I have a particular specialism in Health Psychology, supporting clients with the impact of long term physical health conditions, such as ME/CFS, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, and physical health that is declining with age.

  • Mental health difficulties, including depression/low mood, anxiety, relationship problems, work stress
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Co-morbid physical and mental health difficulties
  • ME/CFS – Myalgic Encephalomyelitis also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Long Covid fatigue
  • Brain fog and cognitive changes in CFS/ME and Long Covid
  • Chronic pain difficulties
  • Helping clients adjust to long term physical health problems
  • Adapting therapy for clients with cognitive impairment
  • Memory assessment and dementia
  • Older Adults with complex mental health difficulties
  • CBT for older adults
  • Supporting older adults with transition to retirement or change of life roles
  • Adapting therapy for neurodivergent clients
  • Significant personal experience of neurodivergence, including autism, ADHD and PDA

My Approach

I use my wealth of psychological knowledge and experience to work alongside my clients, taking time to listen and understand their difficulties. I focus on clients’ strengths to support them through their darkest times so they can find a way forward which offers hope and joy.

I provide a compassionate, non-judgemental and confidential space so clients no longer feel trapped by their pasts or troubled by their present. Instead clients I work alongside are able to find themselves again in the midst of difficulties, and focus on what really matters as they move forward with their lives.

Personal Joys

I find joy in many things, letting joy sneak into my life through time with my family, getting messy and creative with my amazing children (I have two young girls), or being curled up under a cosy blanket on my sofa watching TV. I enjoy chilling out with my friends over a cuppa in our local café, listening to my favourite music as I dance around my kitchen, and doing anything creative, from cake decorating to painting murals. I’ve recently found a passion for running and find joy in being in nature as I run through local fields and woodlands.
