Psychiatric Doctor
At Finding Joy Psychological Services, Eric currently provides Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), bringing his extensive medical and psychiatric experience into his psychological therapy work.
“I am a Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry whose practice bridges rigorous psychiatric training with a strong grounding in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Holding a Postgraduate Diploma in CBT alongside membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, I bring a therapeutic, formulation-driven mindset to my psychiatric work going beyond diagnosis and prescribing to understand the thoughts, behaviours, and lived experiences that shape a patient’s presentation. My registrar-level experience spans General & Acute, Forensic, CAMHS, Neuropsychiatry, Learning Disability/ASD, Old Age, and Low/Medium Secure services, giving me a breadth of exposure few clinicians match. I am equally committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of clinicians, reflecting my belief that good psychiatry is taught as much through relationship and reflection as through textbooks. I have worked with numerous clients using a range of CBT modalities, and it continues to bring me genuine satisfaction to see clients progress and achieve what they set out to gain from therapy. I am excited to bring the full breadth of my psychiatric knowledge into the field of therapy, as I firmly believe the two disciplines are most effective when working in unison.”
For me, psychiatry/ Therapy starts with people, not paperwork. I believe every patient carries a story worth understanding fully the experiences, fears, and patterns of thinking that brought them to this point and that real progress comes from working with someone, not simply treating at them. Drawing on my training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, I pay close attention to how people think and what that thinking does to how they feel and act, using this understanding to build treatment plans that make sense to the patient as much as to the clinician.
I value honesty, patience, and genuine curiosity in every conversation, and I see the therapeutic relationship itself built on trust and being truly listened to as one of the most powerful tools in recovery. Whether working alongside a multidisciplinary team, a patient’s family, or the patient themselves, my aim is always the same: to understand people well enough to help them understand themselves.
Outside of clinical practice, I am a keen follower of sport ( football ), enjoying the discipline, teamwork, and competitive spirit it brings qualities I see mirrored in good clinical teams.
am an avid reader of medical literature, always looking to deepen my understanding of psychiatry and medicine more broadly, and I keep a close eye on foreign affairs and global politics, drawn to the way world events shape and are shaped by human behaviour and society.
